Reduced Arithmetically Gorenstein Schemes and Simplicial Polytopes with Maximal Betti Numbers

چکیده
An SI-sequence is a finite sequence of positive integers which is symmetric, unimodal and satisfies a certain growth condition. These are known to correspond precisely to the possible Hilbert functions of Artinian Gorenstein algebras with the Weak Lefschetz Property, a property shared by most Artinian Gorenstein algebras. Starting with an arbitrary SI-sequence, we construct a reduced, arithmetically Gorenstein configuration G of linear varieties of arbitrary dimension whose Artinian reduction has the given SI-sequence as Hilbert function and has the Weak Lefschetz Property. Furthermore, we show that G has maximal graded Betti numbers among all arithmetically Gorenstein subschemes of projective space whose Artinian reduction has the Weak Lefschetz Property and the given Hilbert function. As an application we show that over a field of characteristic zero every set of simplicial polytopes with fixed h-vector contains a polytope with maximal graded Betti numbers.

We discuss simple partitioning phenomena for intersection rings of certain toric varieties, and apply this to prove the following results. ̋ We generalize a result of Gräbe, proving that Stanley–Reisner rings of homology spheres are Gorenstein. ̋ We give a new and direct proof of a theorem of the authors due to which the cohomology rings of matroids are Poincare duality algebras. ̋ We prove a conj...
متن کاملHilbert Functions of Irreducible Arithmetically Gorenstein Schemes
In this paper we compute the Hilbert functions of irreducible (or smooth) and reduced arithmetically Gorenstein schemes that are twisted anti-canonical divisors on arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay schemes. We also prove some folklore results characterizing the Hilbert functions of irreducible standard determinantal schemes, and we use them to produce a new class of functions that occur as Hilbert ...
متن کاملOn a special class of Stanley-Reisner ideals
For an $n$-gon with vertices at points $1,2,cdots,n$, the Betti numbers of its suspension, the simplicial complex that involves two more vertices $n+1$ and $n+2$, is known. In this paper, with a constructive and simple proof, wegeneralize this result to find the minimal free resolution and Betti numbers of the $S$-module $S/I$ where $S=K[x_{1},cdots, x_{n}]$ and $I$ is the associated ideal to ...
متن کاملClassification of pseudo-symmetric simplicial reflexive polytopes
Gorenstein toric Fano varieties correspond to so called reflexive polytopes. If such a polytope contains a centrally symmetric pair of facets, we call the polytope, respectively the toric variety, pseudo-symmetric. Here we present a complete classification of pseudo-symmetric simplicial reflexive polytopes. This is a generalization of a result of Ewald on pseudosymmetric nonsingular toric Fano ...
متن کاملEmpty Simplices of Polytopes and Graded Betti Numbers
Abstract. The conjecture of Kalai, Kleinschmidt, and Lee on the number of empty simplices of a simplicial polytope is established by relating it to the first graded Betti numbers of the polytope. The proof allows us to derive explicit optimal bounds on the number of empty simplices of any given dimension. As a key result, we prove optimal bounds for the graded Betti numbers of any standard grad...
